MOUNT AIRY — The 36th annual Sonker Festival will be held on Oct. 3 from 1 to 5 p.m. This event will feature old-time and bluegrass music, quilters, a Civil War exhibit, and flat foot dancing. Servings of sonker (a deep-dish fruit pie) will be available for $3 per serving. Beverages will be available for $1 each.
This event is presented by the Surry County Historical Society at the historic Edwards-Franklin House located at 4132 Haystack Road, Mount Airy. The house will be open for touring (free admission to the house). Participants are encouraged to bring a lawn chair.
