Mrs. Estelle Gambill Hunter of Elkin passed away Friday, Sept. 3, 2010, at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. She was 80.

Mrs. Hunter was born Nov. 24, 1929, in Wilkes County to Clyde Ray and Ethel Carter Money.

She was a member of Elkin Valley Baptist Church for 40 years. Mrs. Hunter was employed by Elkin City Schools in the after school program for several years and volunteered at Habitat for Humanity.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hunter was preceded in death by two husbands, Billie Eugene Gambill and John Hunter Jr.; a brother, Clyde Ray Money, Jr.; and two sisters, Ivy Dale Money and Hessie Mae Money Collins.

She is survived by four sons, Doug Gambill of State Road, David Hunter and wife Dawn of Clayton, Tommy Gambill and wife Amy of Thurmond, and Johnny Hunter of Elkin; three daughters, Jody Hudspeth and husband Steve of Thurmond, Ann Hodge and husband Jeff of Greenville, S.C., and Karen Frank and husband John of Wake Forest; 12 grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

A funeral service was held Sunday, Sept. 5, 2010, at Elkin Valley Baptist Church with Rev. Johnny Blevins officiating. Burial followed at Crestwood Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Elkin Valley Baptist Church, 118 N. Elkin Drive, Elkin, NC 28621.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Elkin Health Care and Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital for all of their care and support shown to Mrs. Hunter.
