Elkin shuts out Surry Central

Elkin continued their undefeated season on Monday, shutting down Surry Central 9-0. Kaylee Brown highlighted the singles competition in her match against Taylor Casey. Brown won the match 6-0, 6-2.

Ashlyn Reece continued the momentum, taking down Hunter Marion 6-1, 6-1.The duo also teamed up for doubles competition, and defeated Taylor Casey and Megan Gillespie 8-1. Emma White shut out her singles opponent, Savannah Wilson, 6-0, 6-0, while Ester Neumark made quick work of Megan Gillespie 6-1, 6-0.

Sarah Gwyn also defeated her singles opponent Gabby Shinault 6-1, 6-0 and Mary Tayloe rounded out Elkin's singles competition with win against Abby Samuels, 6-1, 6-2. For the final two doubles matches, Emma White and Sarah Gwyn paired up against Hunter Marion and Savannah Wilson. Although close, the Lady Elks pulled out the win 8-5. The final match of the evening paired Ester Neumark and Mary Tayloe against MaKayla Cox and Kennedy Dockery. Neumark and Tayloe held off Cox and Dockery 8-4. This win elevates the Lady Elks to a 7-0 record. They will be back in action tomorrow as they host the Starmount Rams.

East Wilkes holds off Ashe County

East Wilkes improved their record, as of Monday afternoon, to 4-1, with a win over Ashe County. The Cardinals won the match 6-3, with four wins in singles action, and two in doubles. Jessica Rumple was able to shut down Courtney Bowers 6-1, 6-2 for her singles match. Audrianna Bauguess also had a solid match, winning 6-2, 6-3 over Lizzie Hanes.

Rachael Greene was the first Cardinal loss of the day. She put up a strong fight against Sierra Wilson, but eventually lost 1-6, 7-6 (7-5), (7-2). Kelly Johnson also lost her singles match to Haley Maloney 4-6, 6-4, (8-6).

Meredith Nance and Hannah Brown both were able to provide the rebound for the Cardinals and win over their respective opponents. Nance defeated Amanda Tugman 6-1, 6-2, while Brown held off Anna Wooten 6-4, 1-6, (7-4). Jessica Rumple and Audrianna Bauguess suffered the Cardinals only loss in doubles matches, losing to Courtney Bowers and Lizzie Hanes 8-4.

The final two doubles matches sealed the win for the Cardinals, with duo Rachael Greene and Meredith Nance defeating Sierra Wilson and Haley Maloney 8-2. Kelly Johnson also rebounded from her singles match loss to help her doubles partner Mary Garris win 8-4 over Amanda Tugman and Anna Wooten.

Cardinals fly by Blackhawks

The East Wikes Cardinals steamrolled passed the Blackhawks Tuesday, winning the match 9-0.

Star freshman Jessica Rumple made quick work of Anyssa Terrell, beating her 6-0, 6-0. Audrianna Bauguess also shut out her opponent, Vicky Watts, 6-0, 6-0.

Rachael Greene finished off Laiken Price 6-1, 6-2, and Kelly Johnson beat Haley Olsen 6-1, 6-0. Hannah Brown and Meredith Nance wrapped up singles with a pair of wins. Nance beat Holly Witington 6-0, 6-1, and Brown finished off Celena Bryant 6-1, 6-0.

The Cardinals also swept the doubles matches with Brown and Mary Garris defeating Terrell and Watts 8-2. Christy Carter and Kayla Martin beat Price and Olsen 8-3.  Cherae Ferguson and Kayla Pardue finished the win, beating Whitington and Bryant 8-0.
