Elks serve Cardinals' first loss

Elkin kept their undefeated season going as they steamrolled passed East Wilkes Cardinals 9-0 Wednesday afternoon.

Although originally scheduled for Tuesday, the match was delayed until Wednesday after rain showers blanketed the area.

Singles competition highlighted tennis juggernauts Kaylee Brown and Jessica Rumple delivering back and forth play during their entire match. Brown came out on top, winning 6-3,6-4.

Ashlyn Reece took down Audrianna Bauguess 6-2, 6-7 (3), and Emma White shut out Rachel Greene 6-0, 6-0.

Esther Neumark defeated Kelly Johnson in a close three-set match. Neumark took the first set, 6-4. but fell during the second set 1-6. She finally regained control during the third, winning 7-2.

Sarah Gwyn beat Meredith Nance 6-4, 6-2, and Mary Tayloe wrapped up singles competition with a win against Hannah Brown, 6-2, 6-3.

Elkin continued their momentum into doubles competition, sweeping all three matches.

The undefeated dynamic duo, Ashlyn Reece and Kaylee Brown beat Jessica Rumple and Jessica Bauguess in a close, 8-6 match.

Emma White paired up with Sarah Gwyn to take on Rachel Greene and Meredith Nance for their doubles match. White and Gwyn held off Greene and Nance for the win, 8-4.

The final doubles match paired Esther Neumark and Mary Tayloe against Kelly Johnson and Mary Garris. Neumark and Tayloe won the match 8-1.

The Elks will be back on the courts on Monday to host Surry Central at 4 p.m. while the Cardinals will travel to East Surry Monday for their match also beginning at 4 p.m.
