White Rock United Methodist Church is sponsoring port-a-pit chicken barbecue on Saturday, Aug. 28, at the Thurmond Grocery Store on N.C. 21. They will begin serving at 11 a.m. until they run out. Plates will be $7.50 and halves will be $5.
Yale Huie will be bringing the message at Garden Creek Baptist Church at 9 a.m. Aug. 29. Everyone is invited to worship in this historic church. Campers in the Stone Mountain State Park are especially welcome to attend.
The ladies at Welcome Home Baptist Church are sponsoring a barbecue chicken dinner on Saturday, Sept. 4, in the fellowship hall. They will begin serving at 11 a.m. Go by there and get some good chicken.
New books now ready to check out at the Traphill Branch Library include “The New Oxford Annotated Bible,” “Heart of Stone” by Jill Marie Landis, “Wilkes County Bits and Pieces” from Wilkes Community College, “A Dream for Hannah” by Jerry S. Eicher, “Breathe” by Lisa T. Bergin, and “An Honest Love” by Kathleen Fuller.
New DVDs ready to check out include “Alvin and the Chipmunks: the Squeakqel” and “It's Complicated.” Movies can be checked for one week with your library card at no cost to you.
Condolences go to the family of Frank Shaver, brother of John Shaver, who passed away last week.

Fay Harris reports that Traphill had a low temperature of 65 degrees on Aug 21 and a high temperature of 90 degrees on Aug. 22. There was 1.9 inches of rain during the week of Aug 16―22.
