Yadkin County reports first case of rabies

A skunk killed by an unvaccinated dog at 1747 Mountain Grove Road, Hamptonville on Wednesday, July 21, has tested positive for rabies at the North Carolina State Laboratory of Public Health. There was no human exposure. The unvaccinated dog was euthanized.

It is imperative to have all pets vaccinated according to N.C. Law. Keep kids and pets away from wild animals and animals you don’t know. Don’t let pets run free. Secure all garbage can lids and don’t leave pet food outside. Report wild or stray animals to animal control. Anyone in contact with rabies should wash the exposed area thoroughly and contact their doctor and the Yadkin County Health Department.
