NORTH WILKESBORO — The men’s golf team at Elkin tied and then took a one-stroke victory over Alleghany in an eight-team match at Oakwoods Golf Course Thursday.
Josiah Blevins, with a 35, paced the Buckin’ Elks and the field in the first nine holes of play. Harrison Hall (39), Cory Anderson (44), and Noah Carter (45) also scored for Elkin in the opener.
Blevins only shot a 41 for the second nine holes, but Anderson (40), Hall (43) and Logan Johnson (43) all logged solid scores and carried Elkin to victory.

Starmount 1, North Surry 0: In Mount Airy, Katelyn Coffman scored midway through the second half to give the Rams their second win of the season.
The goal came after Coffman crashed the net following a cross by freshman Clare Maske. “I told the girls it was going to come down to one little play,” Starmount Coach Jered Markman said.
Amanda O’Donnell picked up the shutout, making nine saves. “She had a great game,” Markman said. “She was solid.”
Corner kicks were 13-4 in favor of the Greyhounds. “We gave up way too many opportunities,” Markman said. “We had opportunities; they had opportunities.”
The Rams travel to Ronda to face East Wilkes Tuesday.
Wilkes Central 13, Starmount 2: In Boonville, the Eagles turned 12 walks and 10 hits into 13 runs in an easy win.
Austin Staley led the Eagles, going 3-for-3 at the plate with two walks and two RBI. Staley’s hits included a home run and a double. Evan Adams added three RBI for Wilkes Central.
Ben Church went the distance (five innings), allowing five hits, walking one, and striking out five.
Both Starmount runs came in the first after Ben Combs and Garrett Stokes were hit by pitches and advanced on a fielder’s choice. The two then scored on a two-out single by Caleb West. Sawyer Davis started the rally with a single, but was erased on the fielder’s choice at the plate.
