JEFFERSON — Elkin’s boys came out strong in the first half against Ashe Thursday, but couldn’t keep the momentum going in the second half, falling to the Huskies 55-42.

The Buckin’ Elks started the game even with Ashe, ending the first quarter 11-11, but then picked up speed in the second quarter. Elkin finished the first half over Ashe, 25-20.

But half time lit a fire under the Huskies, who came back to outscore the Elks in the third quarter, 16-9, and again in the fourth quarter, 19-8, for the win.

The game, which was originally scheduled for Friday night, was moved up a night to avoid possible winter weather forecast for the High Country.

The results leave the Elks 3-19 on the season, 1-10 in conference, and Ashe’s record moves to 9-12, 6-5.
