RONDA — The Lady Vikings used a balanced attack to down the Lady Cardinals on the road Tuesday night, 68-47.
North Wilkes had four players in double figures, led by the inside attack of Allie Church with 19 points.
Brittany Escobar and Alley Shumate each hit two three-pointers and went a combined 10-10 at the charity stripe.
Jada McCrimmon and ShaNisha White led East Wilkes with 13 points each, and McKenzie Stokes added 11.
McCrimmon opened the scoring with a three from the top of the key, but then the Cards went through a tough six minutes where nearly every shot seemed to hit the rim three times before rattling out.
That allowed Church to lead the Vikings to an 8-3 lead.
East cut the margin to two points at 10-8 late in the first quarter. However, Shumate launched a three just before the buzzer to give North a 13-8 lead going into the second period.
From a 15-10 score, North broke open the game with a 20-4 run for a 35-14 halftime lead.
Allison Livengood didn’t score in the first period, but she made up for it after that. She had six points in the run and finished with 13.
Escobar made a basket and two free throws in the run, then finished off the half with North’s second buzzer-beater shot from deep.
The Vikings didn’t let up in the second half. They continued building the lead with a 15-4 start that made it 50-18 with three and a half minutes left.
The Cards showed their heart by continuing to attack and try to cut into the lead. After scoring just 18 points in the first 20 minutes, they scored 29 points in the final 11 1/2 minutes. The 32-point lead dropped to 21 for the final.
