RONDA — North Wilkes doubled up East Wilkes through nearly three quarters before coasting to a 63-44 win Tuesday.

The Vikings’ pressure defense forced East Wilkes into several midcourt turnovers that allowed North to get its transition game going.

In the halfcourt, North’s Jordan Church slashed to the basket for a game-high 23 points. Josh Bare muscled his way to the rim for 13 points, including the first two scores of the game.

From 6-5, the Vikings used a 10-0 run for some breathing room. The lead never fell below 10 after that.

North Wilkes led 22-10 after the first quarter and was up 43-18 at the break.

Church single-handedly outscored the Cardinals 19-18 in the first half.

The lead reached its biggest margin at 54-27 when Josh Martin sank a free throw with 53.4 seconds left in the third quarter.

The Cards came out aggressively attacking the rim in the final period and outscored North 17-9 over the last nine minutes of the game.

Still, the Vikings finished the sweep of the Cards with the 19-point win.

On a night when several sporting events were canceled by the threat of bad weather, East Wilkes hosted a packed house.
