Patrolman Bryan Walker with the Elkin Police Department has been selected as “Employee of the Year,” announced Chief Monroe Wagoner.

The 28-year-old officer was nominated for the honor by fellow officers who work within the police department.

“This is a special announcement. We have a lot of good people in the department, but this one is always nice. It’s really up to fellow officers. They made a great choice,” said Wagoner.

Wagoner presented Walker at Town Hall on Monday night. Mayor Lestine Hutchens thanked Walker for his service.

“In appreciation for all the contributions you make to the Elkin Police Department, congratulations,” said Hutchens.

“It’s actually shocking…to be elected by your peers and the people you work with. I am very honored,” said Walker. “I have to say that I couldn’t be more happier right now.”

Walker is often recognized in the community as a friendly, visible, and dedicated patrolman. He has handled a wide variety of law enforcement matters from crime response, aid during traffic crises, sporting activities, and other duties by the department.

Walker graduated from North Wilkes High School in 2007. He received his Associate in Applied Science in criminal justice technology from Wilkes Community College in 2009. He went on to complete his Basic Law Enforcement Training course in 2010.

Walker joined the Elkin Police Department in September of 2010 as an auxiliary officer. He was hired full-time in February of 2011. Prior to serving in the police department, Walker also served as a volunteer firefighter for six years with the Mountain View Fire Department.

“Walker has proven himself as an outstanding officer always displaying professionalism and integrity in everything he does,” said Wagoner. “He has a sincere compassion to serve the public and help those that cannot help themselves. He continuously helps other employees any way he can in the performance of their duties. He is an valued asset to this department and the town of Elkin.”
