YADKINVILLE — Sheriff Ricky Oliver announced the times and dates available for the public to tour the new jail this week.
The jail celebrated its completion with a ribbon cutting ceremony Tuesday at 2 p.m. Due to press deadlines, the article with full coverage will run in the Dec. 26 issue of The Ripple.
Oliver said the jail will be open to public tours Dec. 18, 19, 20, 30 and 31 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Jan. 2-3 also will be open during the same time slot.
Staff will be on site to give guided tours through the facility. The public can drop by during these times and see the new jail prior to inmates being moved in.
Groups of 20 or more are asked to contact the sheriff’s office for advance notice of their arrival. The office can be reached at 679-4217.
Following the tours, the jail staff will undergo training and special joint training sessions will be held with fire, emergency and local police departments to prepare for any emergency situations.
Oliver said the hope is to have the jail fully operational and housing inmates by the end of January.
