To the editor,
The Board of Directors of the Yadkin County Chamber of Commerce would like to express our support of the upcoming alcohol referendum for the Town of Jonesville.
Our Chamber has worked cooperatively with all of Yadkin’s tourism agencies to promote our area, and feel strongly that having the ability to serve legally acquire alcohol to our visitors is vitally important. The sale of alcohol has also shown to spur additional development such as lodging, eating establishments, and retail shopping.
In addition, alcohol sales will directly and indirectly increase sales tax revenue for both Jonesville and Yadkin County. While Jonesville currently shares in the wine excise taxes collected ($2,502.66 in 2011, $3,173.28 in 2012), an additional estimated $7,300 in 2011 and $6,025.00 in 2012 would have been returned to Jonesville if beer sales were allowed. This issue is not only about choice, but economic growth as well.
The Yadkin County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors supports the alcohol sales referendum for the Town of Jonesville at the November 5th Election.
