YADKINVILLE — Yadkin County volleyball squads continued their remarkable runs through the state playoffs Thursday night in third-round action.
In Albemarle, Mountain Valley Conference champion Starmount swept host Albemarle 25-12, 25-20, 25-22 to continue its dominance in the 1A volleyball picture.
Haley Hartman powered the Lady Rams to victory with 11 kills, 17 digs, three assists and two aces, while Hunter Welborn tallied 17 kills, five blocks and three digs. Erin Barr recorded 38 assists with six digs.
Alli Jones and Ashley Johnson combined for a perfect 26-for-26 mark on serves with eight digs and five kills. Alli St. John added eight kills, four digs and two blocks, while Leah Simpson tacked on three assists and one dig. Brittany Zellar tallied four digs.
Starmount will take on North Stokes in the Elite 8 Saturday afternoon in Boonville. The match is set for 2:00 p.m.
In King, Forbush’s magical run through the 2A bracket added another chapter Thursday as the Lady Falcons stunned conference rival West Stokes in three games, 25-22, 25-19, 25-22.
Forbush, the No. 3 seed from the Western Piedmont Conference, got revenge on the league’s No. 2 seed for two regular-season losses Thursday, sweeping the Wildcats out of the postseason.
Jessica Funk led the Falcons’ charge with 14 kills, while senior Makenzie Dudley tallied 12. Anna Harris and Mallory Choplin added three aces apiece.
Forbush’s Cinderalla run through the playoffs will continue against Lake Norman Charter Saturday. Lake Norman Charter stunned defending champion North Surry, ending the Greyhounds’ 25-match winning streak, to advance.
