Syringe binge leads to arrest

On Sept. 24 at 9:06 p.m., the Elkin Police Department responded to Hugh Memorial Hospital in reference to a larceny.

According to hospital staff, a white male was observed stealing syringes. The officers found the male walking near Johnson Ridge Medical Park.

“During the course of their investigation, police recovered needles, cocaine and alprazolam,” said Captain Kim Robison of the Elkin Police Department.

Travis Donald Thompson, 45, Lewisville, was charged with felony possession of a schedule II (cocaine), felony possession with intent to sale, manufacture and deliver schedule II, possession of paraphernalia and possession of schedule IV (alprazolam) and misdemeanor larceny.

Thompson was transported to the Elkin Police Department where he was processed and then transported to the Surry County Magistrate’s Office. He was given a $5000 secured bond with a Nov. 27 court date.
