Lady Elks cruise to win in tennis opener

ELKIN - The Lady Elks opened the 2013 tennis season in style.

Elkin breezed past Wilkes Central 7-2 on the court Tuesday afternoon to notch its first victory of the season.

Payton Nicholson, Julie Neumark, Emma Aldridge and Carolyn Blackburn picked up straight-set singles victories to lead the Elks, while Makayla Dimmette battled past Madison Wilcox 3-6, 6-2, 10-8 for another win.

At No. 1, Miracle Walters dropped a hard-fought match at with Central’s Mary Hollis 6-2, 4-6, 10-8.

In doubles play, Walters and Nicholson coasted to a dominating 8-1 victory to secure the team triumph. Gigi Kakouras and Blackburn added an 8-5 victory in the final doubles match for the Elks.
