RONDA - East Wilkes’ Kennedy Lester, Brandi Parks and Ashley Wagoner continue to rack up the postseason accolades off the softball diamond.
After starring at the Powerade State Games in Charlotte last month and garnering 1A All-District 7 honors, the stellar trio added the state’s highest honor when the North Carolina Softball Coaches Association announced the 2013 All-State Squads.
Lester, Parks and Wagoner were joined on the 1A All-State Team by four players from county rival West Wilkes.
Courtney Lackey, Taylor Lowe, Hannah Cardwell and Kaitlyn Pierce earned all-state honors after guiding the Blackhawks to the 1A State Championship in May.
Nine Surry County standouts also found their way on the 1A and 2A All-State Squads to give local schools 16 honorees.
Jessica Barker, Kelsey Wilson and Amber Lawson garnered honors for East Surry, while North Surry’s Molly Martin, Bailey Culler and Marlee Bunker were named all-state performers. Surry Central’s Cassidy Joyner, Brittany Myers and Jordan Wood rounded out the nominees.
West Wilkes’ Lackey was named 1A Co-Pitcher of the Year, splitting honors with Chatham Central’s Kelsey Hayes.
Seven area standouts repeated as all-state honorees: Lester, Barker, Wilson, Lackey and Cardwell on the 1A side, while Martin and Myers earned 2A honors for the second straight season.
