ELKIN - With spring sports hitting the home stretch, area teams were in action throughout the week around the Yadkin Valley.
Soccer: Starmount 7, Alleghany 0
The Lady Rams routed Alleghany 7-0 up the mountain in Sparta Tuesday night to pick up their fourth Mountain Valley Conference victory of the season.
Starmount racked up as many goals as in the previous four games with the win against the Trojans.
The Rams improved to 4-8 on the season.
Softball: Alleghany 6, Elkin 1
The Lady Elks struggled in a pivotal 1A matchup with Alleghany, falling 6-1.
Elkin’s bat were silenced, only managing six hits against Trojan pitching. Cayley Shoemaker paced the way with a single and a triple on the afternoon, but was stranded on base both times.
Bethany Turner came around to score the only run in the game for the Elks in the fourth.
Elkin fell to 8-8 in conference play with the loss, dropping further behind front-runners West and East Wilkes for the 1A crown.
The Elks return the field tonight on Senior Night against the Blackhawks.
Softball: Forbush 6, Starmount 1
The Lady Falcons used two first-run innings to knock off Starmount 6-1 to complete the season sweep over their county rivals.
The Rams fell behind 6-0 before stringing together base hits in the bottom of the seventh. Alisha Baity led off the frame with a double before coming around to score on a Amber Fernando RBI single.
But Shey Steelman recorded three quick outs to put the finishing touches on the 6-1 victory.
Starmount (4-10) returns to the field tonight against East Wilkes in Ronda.
