Vila Tate Anderson Cothren, age 90, passed away peacefully at the Joan Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, NC on Wednesday April 10, 2013.
Vila was born August 23, 1922 to the late Bert and Virda Anderson in Alleghany, NC. Vila and her late husband, Raymond Cothren, owned and operated Roaring Gap Motel and Restaurant for many years. Here they made a host of friends that lived forever in her heart. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to all she met.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and 1 sister, Virginia Joines. Vila is survived by her 3 children; Brenda Gay (Milton) of Pierson, Fla.; Steve Cothren of Sparta, NC and Elaine Royall (Andy) of Roaring Gap, NC.
8 grandchildren: DeLynda Russell, Susan LaBaw and Charles Gay all of Pierson Fla.; Charlie and Glenn Cothren of Sparta, NC; Drew Royall (Kristan) of Roaring Gap, NC; Leia Crouse of Scottville, NC and Trey Royall (Alyssa) of Winston Salem, NC.
8 great-grandchildren: Ashlyn Russell, Karley and Abey LaBaw, Talen Cothren, Marshall and Arabella Royall, Ellie and Mattie Crouse.
Vila is also survived by 2 brothers - Gene Anderson (Dorothy) of Hampstead, NC and Jerry Anderson (Janie) of Pafftown, NC; 2 sisters - Louise Arney of Greensboro, NC and Marie Horn of East Bend, NC.
Several nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and special friends also survive.
The family would like to thank the staff of Woltz Hospice Home for their love and devotion. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at 2pm at Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church in Cherry Lane, NC. The family will receive friends from 12-2pm on Saturday prior to the funeral.
Vila will be laid to rest at Woodruff Cemetery in Glade Valley, NC. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made in her honor to Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, NC or to donor’s choice. The family is being served by Johnson Family Funeral Home in Elkin, NC.
