The Friends of the Elkin Public Library will be hosting a storybook character breakfast Saturday at the First United Methodist Church in Elkin’s fellowship hall.
The event will be held at 9 a.m., with guests urged to arrive promptly as seating is limited. Tickets are available at the Elkin library for $10 each.
Children under 1 year old get in free.
Upon arrival each child will receive a memento book bag to be used during the breakfast.
Breakfast will be served prior to the characters entering, with egg casserole, bacon, bread, and cheese available. Following the meal the characters will enter and explain to the children who they are and a little about the book they are from.
Kids will meet beloved story and movie characters such as Clifford the Big Red Dog, Emily Elizabeth, Peter Pan and Tinkerbell, Fancy Nancy, Batman, Brown Bear, Pinkalicious, Cat in the Hat, Harry Potter, Darth Vader, Pete the Cat, Willie Wonka, Cinderella, White Rabbit, and Pirate Pete.
Members of Elkin High School’s InterAct club will play the characters. After introducing themselves each character will move to a different station around the room. Kids can then visit each character and get an autograph on their memento bookbag.
The event is a benefit for the Elkin Public Library, with proceeds going to the library’s summer reading program. The breakfast also serves as a community service project for the InterAct club.
Youth from First United Methodist will serve the meal.
Sponsors of the breakfast include Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital, Animal Ark Veterinary Hospital, Richard L. Brinegar, DVM, Dr. and Mrs. David Cline, Seaford Insurance Services, Underdown, Ball & Associates, LLC, and Lyndsey and Will Ballard.
Attendees are encouraged to purchase tickets beforehand as space is limited and filling up. Walk-ins the day of the event are welcome if seating remains.
To enter the fellowship hall circle around the church building to the back, where an entrance opens into the event space.
