Local golfers tee off conference season at Silo Run

BOONVILLE - Mountain Valley Conference teams hit the links at Silo Run Golf Course Thursday afternoon to tee off the conference season.


Among the four area squads, Starmount and Forbush finished atop the standings with 421 strokes, while East Wilkes finished third with 439. Elkin brought up the rear with a team score of 470.


Nick Gunnell paced the Rams with a 75 on the 18-hole course, while Landon Doss added a 78. Brady Hunter and Troy Evans shot an 86 and 89, respectively, while Gunner Cass (93) and Austin Holcomb (96) rounded out the scoring.


Kirk Casstevens and Wesley Brown turned in a 75 and 76, respectively, to power the Falcons, while Carson Matthews finished with an 81. Other Forbush finishers: Austin Phillips (93), Schuyler Eldridge (96) and Austin Millirons (112).


McKinley Johnson powered East Wilkes with a 78, while Zack Nixon shot an 81. Zack Faircloth (90), Dustin Halloway (92), Jordan Key (98) and Jacob Adams (99) all finished in the 90s to help the Cardinals finish third among local teams.


The Buckin’ Elks turned in a team score of 470, led by Cory Anderson’s 84. Jacob Christian (90), Josiah Blevins (97), Teran Campbell (99) and Jacob Christian (100) rounded out Elkin’s scorers.
