ELKIN - Heading into Thursday’s rivalry matchup with Starmount, the Buckin’ Elks picked up their first win of the season Wednesday night.
Elkin used a three-run fourth inning to hold off visiting Walkertown 6-4 to break through in the win column.
Seth Haynes, the Elks’ leading hitter through three games with a .400 batting average, powered the offense with a pair of base hits, including an RBI double. Logan Newman, Daniel Brinegar and Calvin Yarboro added run-scoring hits in the game as Elkin collected six hits total.
Four pitchers toed the rubber for the Elks as Houston Parks picked up the ‘W’ with two hitless innings of work. Brinegar pitched 1.2 innings, allowing one earned run, while striking out three.
Bubba Bradley allowed two unearned runs over 1.1 innings of work, while Jamey Cranford picked up the save after slamming the door in the sixth and seventh.
Elkin, now 1-2 on the year and 0-2 in the Mountain Valley Conference, look to knock off rival Starmount (1-3, 1-1) Thursday night in baseball’s Battle of the Bridge.
