Two State Road men were seriously injured in a wreck on U.S. 21 in State Road Tuesday Morning, according to officials.

A silver Grand Prix traveling northbound on U.S. 21 in State Road allegedly veered off left of center and collided with a black Dodge Intrepid heading southbound, witnesses told police.

“The accident scene at this point is still under investigation,” said Trooper Scott Baker of the North Carolina Highway Patrol.

According to police, William Rivera Acosta of State Road was the driver of the Grand Prix, and McCree Wilson Gentry, Jr. of State Road was driving the Dodge Intrepid.

Acosta and McCree were seriously injured in the crash and were rushed to Wake Forest Baptist Hospital.

Members of the State Road Fire Department responded to the scene and were observed clearing road debris.

The Tuesday morning wreck backed up traffic for miles causing motorists to divert and find alternate routes.

“I’d be surprised if anyone survives,” said Will Chambers from Sparta.

According to police, nobody else was involved in the accident.
