EAST BEND - In a make-up double-header, East Wilkes cruised to a sweep of Forbush Thursday night in East Bend.
The Lady Cardinals hung on for a wild 36-34 victory, while the boys coasted to a 78-65 triumph to complete the clean sweep.
In the girls game, after East scored the first five points, the Lady Falcons reeled off 15-straight to grab a 15-5 lead early in the second quarter.
Forbush breezed to a 22-11 lead at the break after a Paris Trivette put-back at the buzzer.
In the third, East battled back and used a 13-2 burst to tie the game at 24-24 with 2:40 left in the period.
The teams traded hoops down the stretch in a back-and-forth fourth quarter.
After two Trivette free throws tied the game at 33-33, East answered. Ashley Hayes sank the front-end of a one-and-one but missed the second. Adrian Pardue grabbed the offensive rebound and laid it back up for a three-point lay to give the Cardinals a 36-33 lead with 5.5 seconds left.
With one second left, Brittany Moose intentionally missed a free throw for a chance at a put-back. But East grabbed the rebound and ran out the clock to preserve the thrilling 36-34 victory.
ShaNisha powered the Cardinals with 17 points on the night, while Erin Royal added 10 second-half points.
In the boys game, Forbush opened strong, grabbing a 15-10 advantage after one and lead 20-16 late in the second.
But East battled back and took a 21-20 lead on a McKinley Johnson corner three and never looked back.
The Cardinals took a 32-29 edge into the locker room and began to pull away in the third. After back-to-back treys by Dillon Gray and a bucket by Jathan Sales, East grabbed a 54-39 lead at the end of three.
The Cards cruised in the fourth, running away with the 78-65 victory.
Wallis paced East with 25 points on the night, while Johnson added 20 points, including four trifectas. Sales tacked on 11 points on the night with Jared Bryan adding seven.
