Cpl. J. Johnson and Chief Monroe Wagoner of the Elkin Police Department were recognized at last week’s Town of Elkin board meeting.

Corporal Johnson was presented with the Life Save Award for a call he was dispatched to on April 29. Johnson was dispatched to the home of an unresponsive female. When he arrived, he found the elderly female lying on the floor. Johnson assessed the patient, began rescue breathing, and continued his efforts until EMS took over. The female survived due to Johnson’s efforts.

Chief Wagoner and Corporal Johnson were each presented with the Certificate of Merit. On October 3, 2012 Chief Wagoner and Johnson entered a home filled deadly carbon monoxide gas and pulled three victims from the residence, saving the life of one of the victims. Their actions were performed in the line of duty, with distinction, gallantry, and courage.
