(On Veterans Day) we pay special tribute to the brave men and women who have served our country in the military.
Our veterans have made incredible sacrifices to protect our freedom, and I’m proud that many of these heroes call North Carolina home. Like many in our state, I have close family members and friends who have put their lives on the line. We cannot ever repay them for their service, but we must do everything possible to ensure that their transition back into civilian life is a smooth one.
I’m pleased that we have taken bipartisan steps in the Senate to help with this transition. A year ago, we passed the VOW to Hire a Hero Act to give tax breaks to companies that hired veterans.
Yet we can do more, and I will do everything in my power to make sure that those who fought for us do not have to fight for a job. On Veterans Day—and every day—we think about the many sacrifices our family members and friends in the military have taken to keep us safe.
