East Wilkes Cardinal Pride Marching Band wins awards

On Oct. 13, 2012, the East Wilkes Band competed in the Spartan Southern Classic Festival of Bands at South Caldwell High School, Hudson, N.C.

The band earned 1st place in 1A/2A classes with a high Excellent rating, receiving 2nd place Drum Major, 2nd place Color Guard, 2nd place Percussion, 1st place Music, 1st place Marching, and 1st place General Effect.

On Oct. 20, the band went to the Freedom Classic Tournament at Freedom High School, Morganton, N.C., earning an Excellent rating, 2nd place Color Guard and 3rd place in Drum Major, Percussion, Music, Marching and General Effect.

The Forbush Festival of Bands at Forbush High School, East Bend, on Oct. 27 was the band’s next competition. The band won 2nd place in all categories and scored an Excellent rating.

The East Wilkes Marching Band travelled to Welcome, N.C., on Nov. 3 for the Fall Festival of Bands at North Davidson High School.

This large competition included 21 bands from all over the area. Out of the four 1A bands, East Wilkes placed 2nd. Their score was also higher than two of the 2A schools. The band brought home trophies for 2nd place Drum Major, 3rd place Color Guard, 3rd place Percussion, 2nd place Music, 2nd place Marching, and 3rd place General Effect.

The East Wilkes Cardinal Pride Marching Band continues to grow each year under the leadership of Director Jennifer Weddington and Assistant Director Mike Weddington. The seniors included: Jessica Wing, Danielle Shore, Celena Pardue and Jennifer Earp.

The Wilkes County Exposition will be held Sat., Nov. 10 at 10 a.m. at Wilkes Central High School.
