The Town of Elkin is notifying citizens that a public hearing will be held at 7 p.m on Nov. 19 at Elkin Town Hall, 266 North Bridge St., in respect to proposed road and alley closures near downtown.

Commissioners are reviewing a petition to permanently close the northern portion of Elk Street and two unopened 15 foot alleys, and that the town carry out the legal procedure required by N.C.G.S. 160A-299, including a public hearing on this matter.

Elk Street and the two unopened alleys lie between Standard Street and the Yadkin Valley Railroad right of way. This was property formerly the Smith Phillips Lumber Company, which has sense been purchased by the Town of Elkin. The closures of these roads are essentially a formality, as the roads were never constructed, they only exist on town maps.

The Planning Board of the Town of Elkin will also review the proposal to close the street on Oct. 29 at their regular meeting at 7 p.m. at the Elkin Town Hall.

Citizens who would like to voice their opinion on the proposed street closings are invited to attend the meeting. Any person with a disability requiring an accommodation, please contact the Town Clerk in advance of these meetings at 794-6465.
