Foothills Arts Council is getting more musical.

Joining the board this summer, Cory Myers, hopes to bring more music related events to the organization.

“A lot of the events are more gallery oriented and theatrical related,” Myers said. “I wanted to bring a musical influence to the group. A musician since he was 16, Myers is also part of the Americana, Blues and Bluegrass style band, Not Your Ordinary, who has played at several gallery events. They will also be performing this weekend at Fiddles Pub during the Pumpkin Festival.

The first music event this season was a C.D. release party last Friday. So far, Myers doesn’t have any other musical events planned.

“There is nothing officially planned yet. I want to do a blues and bluegrass series where bands come and we have an out-door festival,” Myers said. “Right now I’m helping getting musicians to perform at the gallery openings.”

Myers also hopes that one day the Foothills Arts Council could have an outdoor stage for bands to come and play.

“I’d like to get more of a musical influence to the downtown area,” he said. “I think some musical oriented events would be good for the community.”
