State Employees’ Credit Union launched its fourth annual statewide effort in support of N.C.’s military personnel Sept. 16.
“SECU Supports the Troops” is a holiday campaign to collect wish list items for deployed N.C. soldiers.
“Providing “gifts from home” has been a tremendous success thanks to our generous members and community supporters,” Stephanie Holbrook said. Holbrook works as the financial services manager in Elkin.
Beginning Sept. 16 each SECU branch will have a collection box to collect wish list items.
Items looked for include:
- snack foods such as crackers, cookies and trail mix
- powdered drink mixes
- medicine and first aid items like Band-aids or tissues
- above-the-ankle socks
- toboggans in black, olive green, or tan
- various entertainment items like decks of cards, puzzle books, post card stationary, pens an pocket calendars
Items must be new and be able to fit in a 10” by 10” by 5” box.
No pressurized cans or glass will be sent.
Members as well as citizens of the community who are interested in participating in this effort can also make a monetary donation to help ship the supplies to the troops via the Elkin SECU branch.
The “SECU Support the Troops” campaign will run through Oct. 31, allowing SECU personnel time to sort and ship packages for holiday distribution.
“This fundraiser provides the perfect opportunity to show our appreciation to the men and women who valiantly serve our country,” Holbrook said.
