The ARK has named Theresa Knops as its new executive director, effective immediately.
The ARK, a nonprofit homeless shelter located on Hill Street, provides transitional housing and supportive services for homeless families and single women. The shelter offers guests a structured environment that promotes personal responsibility, respect, and cooperation among guests. Each guest of The ARK receives case management from the staff to assist them in finding and maintaining employment and accessing community resources that will help them return to self-sufficiency and permanent housing as soon as possible. Since opening its doors in 2000, The ARK has accommodated more than 1400 guests.
“I am excited about the opportunity to build awareness of the shelter and its mission”, said Knops, who formerly worked as Main Street and Community Manager for the Town of Elkin.
The organization relies on donations from individuals, churches, business and civic groups, as well as the United Fund and private foundations to fund the operations of The ARK.
