If strange things are happening in an old house in Salem, Massachusetts, then it has to be all because of that witch, Agatha Forbes!”

Students at Elkin High take to the stage this weekend for the comedy “All Because of Agatha” written by Jonathan Troy and directed by Leighanne Martin Wright.

Elkin senior Jonathan Parker and junior Courtney Davis play Duff and Joan O’Hara, a young couple who buy the house in 1968 from desperate, yet honest, realtor Mrs. Van Buren, played by junior Erin Cave. A visit by Mrs. Boggs, chairwoman of the Society of Psychic Phenomena of Salem, played by sophomore Emily Phillips, shows a bit more may be going on in the house than meets the eye. Joan hires Ethel, freshman Anna Taylor, as a housekeeper-cook-maid. A visit from Joan’s favorite aunt, Thelma, played by sophomore Aspen Jackson, thrills Joan, but Duff not so much.

Neighbor Dr. Randolph, junior Andrew Smith, tells the couple of the havoc caused by the witch Agatha Forbes every year on November 22. It is Agatha’s mission to rid the house of its occupants every year on that date. Joan decides to throw a party for the witch and invites Dr. Randolph, his mother, Madame La Solda, played by junior Ava McRitchie, who happens to also be a medium.

Reporter Flip Cannon, played by junior Leeza Hemric, comes to the party to do the write-up. Everyone is on the edge of their seat at the party as Agatha, played by senior Kate Ratledge, makes her appearance right on time. But when Agatha tries to get everyone to leave so she can get back to her bridge game with Marc Antony, things don’t go as easily as she planned.

Backstage crew includes sophomore Jocelin Santos as stage manager, freshman Julie Neumark helping with set changes and lights and senior Jonathan Young also helping with lights. Nikki Defrietas and Aylin Aguilar will be the greeters at the door. Evelyn Sanchez helped with set painting.

The performances will be at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday and at 3 p.m. on Sunday in Dixon Auditorium. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students.
