The Foothills Arts Council (FAC) is pleased to announce that it has been awarded $2,000 from the Winston-Salem Foundation to support the Art in the Garden series.

The Art in the Garden series is all FAC programming that is held outside in the newly upgraded garden area. Included in that programming are performances such as “Love, Loss and What I Wore” in May, the Midsummer Eve Garden Gala in June, KidsFest in July, and the Open Air Art Market coming up on Dec. 7 and 8. Associate arts council member group Foothills Theatre hopes to hold another garden performance this fall, and next spring as well, to take advantage of the great space.

FAC plans to use the garden as much as possible. Habitat for Humanity is holding its Art for Homes Auction on Saturday, Sept. 8, in the garden. The arts council is pleased to co-sponsor that event by offering the space for that use. The auction will begin at 7 p.m. and there will be refreshments and wine available.

The new electrical upgrades have enabled the arts council to utilize the garden to its full advantage and the Open Air Art Market is evidence of that. Fine arts and crafts artists set up under tents and market lights for an “old world” market feel, while in the back area there are wineries, food, fire pits for S’mores, seating, and live entertainment.

The house is also in full use with a kids’ craft and artists located upstairs, a quilt exhibit, “Home is Where the Heart Is” in the main gallery and fresh greenery for sale on the porch. The Open Airt Art Market will be open from 5-9 p.m on Friday, Dec. 7, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8.

The arts council is grateful for the support its individual members and the Town of Elkin, Surry County, the Winston-Salem Foundation, the United Fund and the NC Grassroots Arts Program. Keep up with all that’s going on by checking the website, www.foothillsartscouncil.org. Join today and help keep art alive in our community.
